During our visit we initiated the first of our programs within the community. The basis of the program is to first work with mindset to support the participants to get from their bellies and heads into their hearts. As part of the process we then establish working with the participants and with local business leaders and community leaders what the real needs of the community are. We then identify opportunities to provide those needs from within the community assessing current available skills and the skills that need to be supplemented and transferred.

The video that follows gives you a few snapshots of the initial progress the participants have made through the process.

Support the communities in rural South Africa and make a one time donation or set up a monthly donation today, by visiting our site at www.myarmswideopen.org and completing the donation form. Every bit helps! Thank you.

The following video is a short video overview of the first 8 days we spent in Cradock and some of the results the members of the community created and the support they are asking for.

During our second trip this year to South Africa we travelled north to Limpopo province and visited a small rural settlement about 30 km outside of Polokwane called Bergnek. We are working with our partner, Keith (Keabetswe Mosumane), who’s mother lives in Bergnek. Keith approached me while I was in South Africa in February of 2010 and asked me if I would be able to help him and his community. I made the commitment at the time that I would, and so we met in Johannesburg and took a trip to visit for a couple of days. The settlement was established about 13 years ago when the workers where evicted from the farm properties on which they worked. The government gave the new residents land of their own and provided a level of support by building a number of what are called RDP houses and a school. Power was also provided.
