Taking it the MAX
Our discussions in the two communities of Bergnek and Cradock are getting more and more exciting each day! The women in the communities want to give access to the products for as many girls as possible and take the program to the max themselves. How?
Firstly, a really exciting part of the news is that we are going to be training two groups, one in Bergnek and one in Cradock, to manufacture the pads and underwear themselves for sale and distribution into other communities in South Africa. This is with HUGE gratitude to Lunapads who has been there each step of the way and is now helping with the start up of GirlStuff.Period social enterprise manufacturing venture by supplying patterns and sewing instructions for the women.
Secondly, the community members have agree on a name - "GirlStuff.Period". The groups have both been networking and to get the equipment they will need in place to start manufacturing in South Africa. Each community will need two sewing machines and an 'over-locker' to start the business. They have the sewing machines and need help procuring the 'over-lockers'. You can help!
These developments will not only help keep girls in school because they have the menstrual supplies they need, it will also provide much needed employment within the communities of Bergnek, Limpopo and Cradock, Eastern Cape. You can help!
